First Footsteps in Faith is the name of our education program for our children that takes place during the 9:15 hour on Sunday mornings. Children begin this journey in faith when they are 3 years old and toilet trained. The 3year olds through Kindergarten stay in their classrooms and have fun learning that church is a safe place to be, how important they are to our Christian family, and how much Jesus loves them. They occasionally participate in fun activities with our older kids.
First Footsteps in Faith for 1st graders through 6th grade is based on the Workshop Rotation Model, which is currently being used by over 600 churches of all denominations nationwide. In this format, all students study the same Bible story or topic and rotate by class into a different workshop each week for a 3-week period. The curriculum is individualized and tailor made for Church of Our Savior, the ELCA and our community. It addresses the many learning styles of the students by allowing them to think, imagine, experiment and explore through language, art, music, games and a variety of fun activities. The classrooms are inviting, exciting and child-friendly learning environments called workshops. There are many opportunities for parents and adults to become a part of providing fabulous "first footsteps in faith" for our children.
